Greetings District 6840 Rotarians!

My club visits have begun, and I am so proud of the Rotarians I have met and am inspired about what I have learned about their passions for Rotary. Each Club truly has its own culture and identity and I hope we share more of what we do with other Clubs within the District. Did you know the Summit club has its own basket ball gym??  The calendar for my visits is on the District Website.

Thank you to those clubs who have already started book drives to gather children books for us to distribute at our District Conference in Hattiesburg next April. Each Assistant Governor will assist in collecting books from the clubs.

My monthly newsletter will highlight events of importance to all clubs. Please discuss these events and plan to attend.

First up: Nominations for District Governor for 2025-26 are open and the College of Governors will meet after the Vibrant Club Assembly on August 20, 2022 to make that selection.  The link for the nomination form is on the District Website but I have included it for your easy reference in the article below.

Registration is also still open to attend Vibrant Club Assembly on August 20, 2022 at the Ponchatoula Rotary Hut from 8 am til 1 pm. Come meet with Rotarians around the District as we  Speed Network to uncover new ideas to attract, retain and engage members. And, the  Rotary Club of  Ponchatoula makes fantastic jambalaya!   For more information on this, please continue reading in the article below.

Also on August 20, 2022, Past District Governor Elizabeth Van Sant kicks off this year’s Rotary Leadership Institute sessions.  Read more about this event in the article below.

Past District Governor Bob Vaughn has submitted a brief article on the Territory Network Resource teams that are starting to form. This is a great way to become more involved with the clubs in your territory and expand your knowledge of Rotary.

Please remember to pay your semi-annual Rotary International Dues. Invoices were sent out a few days ago and must be paid as soon as possible. The annual District Dues invoice should be sent out in the next few days.  As you know, timely payment of the RI Dues and our District Dues is mandatory and is one requirement for achieving the Rotary Citation for your club. Club presidents, secretaries and treasurers should have received the invoice in the email they have registered in Club Runner.

Our committee for the District Conference to be held in Hattiesburg at USM has been meeting and has lots of great ideas. The conference will open on April 21, 2023 with a golf tournament and close on Saturday evening after the banquet. We are planning several events for families to attend so watch my newsletters for more details. Please put this on your calendar now!

BUT WAIT: THERE’S MORE!!!!
This month we kickoff our scavenger hunt and play "What's My Club". See if you can identify the clubs from the clues and make sure you send in your answers by August 10, 2022. Each month I will give clues for 5 clubs. You may have to search the District Website, my newsletters or ask other Rotarians for help.  The person with the most correct answers is in for a great prize!

Here are the clues for this month:
  • Name the first 4 clubs chartered in our District with the dates of each charter
  • Name the home club of the current District Governor
  • Name the primary host club for the 2022-23 District Conference

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

My goal is to promote the service projects and fundraising efforts of all clubs in a mid month newsletter. But I can’t do this without your help. Please send me information about the event, dates, and contact details.  We will compile that information for the newsletter as well as post on the calendar on the District Website.  Please send in photos so we can make the website and Facebook page sparkle.

See you soon!
