Happy Tuesday!

What a great time I had last week visiting the clubs of Long Beach, Bay St. Louis, and Pass Christian.  We also had our first Fireside Chat in Long Beach for the Bay Pass Territory, and it was a great event!

Couldn’t be more pleased to report that Long Beach has added 4 new members in this first 2 weeks of the Rotary year.  Go Long Beach!

What you need to know this week:

Announcements

  • Club Presidents, have your set your goals for theyear?  Don’t forget to record your club goals in Rotary Club Central so that you can track your progress.  Assistant Governors: Please work with club presidents and ensure all goals have been entered no later than July 31st

  • Committee Chairs:  The organization of every club is different based on your size and structure. There are, however, a handful of positions every club should strive to fill including President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Committee Chairs for Membership, Foundation, and Service. Whenever possible, Chairs of Youth Services, Club Administration, Leadership Development, and Public Image are also vital to ensuring a strong organizational structure to support your club.  Be sure to fill as many of these roles as feasible, and don’t forget that filling these positions will score points for your team, so be sure to update them in Clubrunner for any easy score!

  • August—Membership month: August is Membership month. What are you doing to reach out to potential members in your community? To ensure your current members are satisfied with their club experience? Or to start new clubs or membership levels?  This would be an ideal month to invite Tom Quinn (Deputy Governor of Membership) tom@tomquinn.net or someone from his team to speak about the new membership types and club types available to help you expand your footprint in the community.  It is also a great time to check out these practical Membership Resources for assessing, growing, or starting clubs.  There are Membership points available for these activities, so grab that Team Playbook and get to work planning some Winning Plays!

  • Winning Points Submission:   Don’t forget, you have to submit points to earn them.  Points can be submitted via this form:  Team Rotary Points Submission.  There are social media requirements for most entries, so don’t forget to upload your pictures or social media links.

  • Summer Leadership Seminars: Our Rotary Zone leaders have put together 1-day Leadership Seminars with a focus on Membership, Public Image, and Foundation.  These seminars will offer toolkits, resources, and practical solutions you can take back to your club and implement.  For more information, visit https://www.rizones30-31.org/events/leadership-seminars/ .  I will be attending the seminar in Gadsen, AL on July 27th and hope to see some of you there!

  • Upcoming Club Events: What is your club’s next service project, fundraiser, or really interesting speaker? We want to know! Please email Ashley.mayley.5@gmail.com with the details at least 3 weeks in advance so we can help promote your event to other Rotarians in the district.

  • Family Fun Day:  Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, August 24th from 11-5 at McCleod State Park in Kiln, MS.  The District will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, a live band, and a tent.  There is a splash pad, basketball court, and playground for the kiddos as well as a nature trail.  The park has an 18-hole disc golf course, and we already have 3 sets of cornhole boards!  This is a great opportunity for our Family of Rotary to enjoy a relaxing afternoon together.  Assistant Governors, please discuss with your presidents and plan a side dish your territory could contribute to our family meal. Bay Pass has volunteered to bring baked beans. I will send a signup link for AGs this week so we can coordinate. AGs and Presidents, talk this up to your club! Encourage participation in this inaugural Rotary District 6840 social event.  Let’s set a goal for a minimum of 15 people from each territory to attend the event. Not only will it be fun, but it is also an easy way to score some points for your team!

  • Touchdown Times:  Feedback from club members about the weekly newsletter has been positive. Let us know if you have any suggestions related to the communications plan.
