The Literacy Legacy
December 2025
2nd Edition
FROM THE GOVERNOR

The journey as District Governor continues with many surprises and lots of joy. The
thing that surprises me the most is the amount of good work Rotary is doing in each
of the communities. I knew we were doing good things to support the needs of our
communities, but I didn’t realize just how much we were doing. That is one of the
reasons I wanted us to do the 120 days of service - so that everyone would know how
much we as Rotarians support the local community. Club Presidents, please select the 120 days you wish to use and record the service projects you’re completing during the period selected.

The joy I’m experiencing comes from the time I get to spend with the clubs at events
other than club visits. Events such as the luncheon that the Bayou Territory held,
helping Slidell North Shore pack bags with food, and going to Hattiesburg to be a judge
at the Sunrisers’ Gingerbread House contest.

Each was totally different, and each was totally fun. I’m looking forward to additional opportunities to meet with you in your community.

Let’s not forget about the Paul Harris Gala on January 9, 2026, at the Great Southern
Club, Hancock Bank Building, Gulfport. Registration is now open on the District 6840 website and this newsletter.

On January 10th we will hold the Mid-Year Review at the Bay Waveland Yacht Club,
Bay St Louis. This is an opportunity for each club president to highlight what their club
activities. While there is no cost for this event you still need to register so we will have a good headcount for food. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

And finally, mark your calendars for
May 1-2, 2026, as that will be the District 6840 District Conference. The conference will be held at the IP Spa and Casino, Biloxi.

Rotarians strive every day to make the world a better place 🌍, and the Rotary Foundation is the heart ❤️ of that impact.

🌟 December is Rotary Disease Prevention & Treatment Month! 🌟

This month, Rotary shines a light on one of our key areas of focus: Disease Prevention and Treatment. Rotarians around the world work to improve access to essential healthcare, support medical professionals, promote mental health, and continue the fight against diseases like polio.

We’d also love to spotlight the great work happening right here at home!   Send in any local projects your club is doing so we can highlight the good!
