Greetings!

I am spending the week at Bayou Segnette in the Bayou Territory this week. What a lovely park! This is an area I haven’t visited previously, so I am enjoying learning more about the region.

District news for this week:
Announcements
  • Family Fun Day:  Have you registered??  Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, August 24th from 11-5 at McCleod State Park in Kiln, MS.  The District will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, a live band, and a tent.  There is a splash pad, basketball court, and playground for the kiddos as well as a nature trail.  The park has an 18-hole disc golf course, and we already have 3 sets of cornhole boards!  This is a great opportunity for our Family of Rotary to enjoy a relaxing afternoon together.  Assistant Governors, have you committed to a side dish for your territory yet?  Currently we have Bay Pass bringing Baked Beans, Pontchartrain bringing Chips/Dips, Hub bringing Corn Salad, Orleans bringing Dessert, Beach bringing Setups (buns, condiments, etc.), and East Coast bringing Potato Salad.  AGs and Presidents, talk this up to your club! Encourage participation in this inaugural Rotary District 6840 social event.  Let’s set a goal for a minimum of 10 people from each territory to attend the event. Not only will it be fun, but it is also an easy way to score some points for your team!  We need your members to register so we have a head count for food.
  • August—Membership month: Check out these practical Membership tools on the Membership Resource Buffet! One of the strongest new applications is the Membership Action Plan (MAP) program. To access via Clubrunner, navigate to the Member Area, then to Reports, then Membership Action Plan (MAP). The link will take you from the Clubrunner site to the MAP site, which will help you identify strengths and weaknesses related to membership in your club as well as help you set goals and track progress. I highly encourage every AG and Club leader to check out this new tool and determine how it might benefit your club(s).  Other tools on the Resource Buffet will help you assess club culture, better engage members, and further promote member satisfaction and retention.  There are also resources to help you understand and implement new membership types and new club models.  Let’s use this August memberships month to focus on our club member experiences and how we can make our clubs Simply Irresistible!

  • September—Education and literacy month: Now is the time to be planning a speaker and/or project related to Education and Literacy!

  • Winning Points: You must submit points to earn them!  Points can be submitted via this form:  Team Rotary Points Submission.  You can also submit via the District Website; just go to the Home Page and click on the Team Rotary football. You can also view and download the latest copy of the Winning Plays by clicking on the link below the Team Rotary football.   Remember there are social media requirements for most entries, so don’t forget to upload your pictures or social media links.   We have made one change to make it easier for you: If you have multiple people who attend an event, wear t-shirts, etc., and don’t want to submit multiple entries to account for each person, please send all relevant information to District Admin Meg Noonan, and she will enter these points for you.
  • District Governor interviews:  We have 3 applicants for District Governor.  All Assistant Governors, Deputy Governors, and Past District Governors will serve on the Nominating Committee.  We will meet on Saturday, August 24th at 9:00 a.m. at the Kiln Public Library in Kiln, MS to interview the applicants and vote, and then we will head over to Family Fun Day at McLeod Park.  Applicant information was forwarded last week, and additional information will be sent to you later this week. This is a fun but demanding position, and it is our responsibility as a committee to select the best person for the job.  Please thoughtfully consider the information presented and come prepared to ask each candidate one question that will help us determine who is best suited to fill this role in 27-28.

  • Upcoming Club Events: What is your club’s next service project, fundraiser, or really interesting speaker? We want to know! Thanks to those who have already submitted information. Please email Ashley.mayley.5@gmail.com with the details at least 3 weeks in advance so we can help promote your event to other Rotarians in the district.
