The Literacy Legacy
Hellooooo 2026!
District 6840 had a fantastic week recently! On Friday, January 9th, we hosted the Paul
Harris Society Gala, featuring three excellent speakers: Phil Dodson (Executive Director
of Lunches for Learning), Bill Walker, Past District Governor (Zone 31 Polio Plus Chair),
and Ken Breaux, Past President (Rotary Club of Slidell). Each shared how donations to
The Rotary Foundation help their work. It's impressive to see the global impact made
possible by these contributions.

The enjoyment carried on the following day with our Annual District Mid-Year Checkup.
The most memorable part was hearing each club share details about their community
service projects. These sessions always inspire clubs with fresh ideas to bring home.
This gathering stands out as one of our premier annual events. We also want to
acknowledge the Bay Waveland Yacht Club for being an excellent host this year.

It's hard to believe that my year as District Governor is more than one-half over. The
time has flown by, but I look forward to what else we can accomplish as a District. As I
continue my emphasis on Basic Education and Literacy, I’m encouraging each club to
find a way to help their community by investing time into a local reading program. Unite
for Good with others in our community.

Registration for the District Conference is now open, so please go to the district website
and register. My goal is to make this a fun and informative event!
District Governor-Elect Emily Leitzinger recently attended International Assembly in Orlando and is ready to hit the ground running as our next District Governor!

She had the opportunity to meet Rotary International President-Elect Olayinka H. Babalola, the incoming Rotary International President for 2026-27, and bring back insights from the global leadership team to our district.

Rotary Club of New Orleans Riverbend Spotlight 🌟

Yesterday morning our dedicated Rotarians were great stewards of our Freret Market parking lot as we picked up tons of trash, including 10,094 cigarette butts, and a HUGE catalog, reclaimed the fence by tearing down vines AND continued painting the downtown side of the wood fence!

It's looking good for their January 31st Freret Market!
