DISTRIBUTION: 24-25 Presidents, Assistant Governors, Deputy Governors, and District Committee Chairs

Greetings!

It has been nice being home this week.  I had a chance to catch up on laundry, clean the house, enjoy cooking in a real kitchen, and, of course, catch up on lots of Rotary emails! Hope your week has been rewarding as well. This week and next I will be visiting the clubs in the Beach Territory, so staying close to home.

This week’s hot District news:
Announcements
  • Family Fun Day:  Currently we have over 100 people registered! Have you? Family Fun Day is this Saturday, August 24th from 11-5 at McCleod State Park in Kiln, MS.  The District will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, a live band, and a tent. We also have a covered pavilion with ceiling fans as well as some large industrial fans to help cool. We will be under the shade of the live oak trees, but I know it will be warm, but there will be lots of fun and fellowship! The park has a splash pad, basketball court, and playground for the kiddos as well as a nature trail.  There is an 18-hole disc golf course, and we already have 3 sets of cornhole boards to start a little friendly competition.  This is a great opportunity for our Family of Rotary to enjoy a relaxing afternoon together.  Assistant Governors, have you committed to a side dish for your territory yet? Currently we have Bay Pass bringing Baked Beans, Pontchartrain bringing Chips/Dips, Hub bringing Corn Salad, Orleans bringing Dessert, Beach bringing Setups (buns, condiments, etc.), and East Coast bringing Potato Salad.  AGs and Presidents, talk this up to your club! Encourage participation in this inaugural Rotary District 6840 social event.  Let’s set a goal for a minimum of 10 people from each territory to attend. Not only will it be fun, but it is also an easy way to score some points for your team!  We need your members to register so we have a head count for food.

  • District Advisory Council (DAC) meeting and District Governor interviews:  The DAC will meet at 9:00 Saturday at the Kiln Public Library for our quarterly meeting.  Agendas and financial reports will be sent later today for your review prior to the meeting. All Assistant Governors, Deputy Governors, and Past District Governors serve on the Nominating Committee and will convene immediately after the DAC meeting to interview the applicants and vote.  We will then we will head over to Family Fun Day at McLeod Park.  Applicant information has been forwarded to each of you. This is a fun but demanding position, and it is our responsibility as a committee to select the best person for the job.  Please thoughtfully consider the information presented and come prepared to ask each candidate one question that will help us determine who is best suited to fill this role in 27-28.  I am working to set up a Zoom environment for those who can’t attend and will forward those details as soon as I can confirm the technology requirements have been met.

  • September—Education and literacy month: Now is the time to plan a speaker and/or project related to Education and Literacy!  Perhaps invite your school leaders to provide a report on the schools. Or survey teachers and administrators in your district and ask how we could meaningfully support them. What truly impactful projects can we implement to support education in our communities?

  • Winning Points:  I LOVE seeing the points add up! Keep watching the Thursday Touchdown Times to see where your territory stands! We have added some additional points for ticket purchases to the Polio/Foundation fundraiser Halloween Ball: 1 point for individual tickets, 3 points for ½ tables, and 1 point for full tables. District Admin Meg will enter these points at the conclusion of the event. In order to the score points, you must purchase tickets through the District Website.

  • Clubrunner training:  Do your club leaders need training on club and/or district Clubrunner use and management?  If so, please email me with what content you would like covered and some general ideas about times your members would be available, and we will schedule training with Clubrunner Support. District Admin Meg Noonan and I can also provide one-on-one support as needed. Just give us a call! The District phone number is 833-840-6840.

  • RI and District Dues:  RI and District dues were mailed on July 1st and are now past due. If you have not paid these invoices yet, please do so expediently.  Rotary will pull your club charter if dues are not paid, and none of us want to see that happen! If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or the District Treasurer, Ashley Mayley.

  • Club Events/Projects: What is your club’s next service project, fundraiser, or really interesting speaker? We want to know! Thanks to those who have already submitted information. Please email Ashley.mayley.5@gmail.com with the details at least 3 weeks in advance so we can help promote your event to other Rotarians in the district.
