DISTRIBUTION: 24-25 Presidents, Assistant Governors, Deputy Governors, and District and Club Committee Chairs

Greetings!

What a great Rotary weekend we had!  The Nominating Committee met and elected John Olinde as our provisional District Governor Nominee Designate for 27-28. And we followed that up with an afternoon of fun and fellowship at Family Fun Day! I want to personally thank each of you for encouraging your members to participate. We had a great turnout, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.  I hope this will become an annual event in our district.

What do you need to know this week?
Announcements
  • September—Education and literacy month: Now is the time to plan a speaker and/or project related to Education and Literacy!  Perhaps invite your school leaders to provide a report on the schools. Or survey teachers and administrators in your district and ask how we could meaningfully support them. What truly impactful projects can we implement to support education in our communities? Looking for a book project? Check out the Andy and Elmer books, which teach the 4-Way test and Service Above Self!  Details can be found on their webpage: https://www.rotaryidealsliteracy.com/home.html

  • Deputy Governor Quarterly meetings: One of my goals as governor is to continue combatting the “committees of one” in our district, and prior to the beginning of this Rotary year, I spoke with each of you and discussed strategies for accomplishing this goal. We agreed that each Deputy Governor should hold quarterly committee meetings. Points have been awarded to clubs for naming committee chairs in each of your areas, and those appointed will serve as your committee.  But for them to gain the larger point value, the club chairs must attend at least two of your district committee meetings. As a result, some of you have received emails asking when the committee meetings will be held. We are almost through the first quarter, so if you haven’t held a committee meeting, please get them scheduled and send me the dates and Zoom links so I can include them in the Leadership Bulletin. You may also email your committee members with more details. District Admin Meg can assist with setting up Zoom meetings. She can also help you locate your committee members in Clubrunner if you are unsure how to do this.  If you have questions, please reach out to Meg or me. And Deputy Governors, don’t forget to send Meg the attendance from your meeting so she can award those coveted points!

  • Gateway for Good:  Do you remember the Social Fingerprint Index we did prior to PETS that helped define members’ primary causes and skills/contributions? The survey was only the beginning!  If your club is looking to perform more meaningful service or increase membership, you can use the Gateway for Good program to help develop a custom project strategy for your club.  We have grant money available to offset the cost. If you are interested, reach out to me for more details.

  • Rotary Halloween Ball:  We will host a Halloween Ball District Fundraiser on Saturday, October 26th at the Bay St. Louis Community Center.  All proceeds will be donated to Polio Plus and The Rotary Foundation!  Buy a table or a ticket, don your coolest costume, and join us for a spooktacular evening! The evening includes a costume competition, table decorating contest, dancing, and dining. We are working to secure a block of hotel rooms at the Hollywood Casino for anyone who might want to stay the night.  Please promote this event in your territory and club, and let's raise some money for our Foundation! Check out the Touchdown Times for links to register.

  • Clubrunner training:  Do your club leaders need training on club and/or district Clubrunner use and management?  If so, please email me with what content you would like covered and some general ideas about times your members would be available, and we will schedule training with Clubrunner Support. District Admin Meg Noonan and I can also provide one-on-one support as needed. Just give us a call! The District phone number is 833-840-6840.

  • RI and District Dues:  RI and District dues were mailed on July 1st and are now past due. If you have not paid these invoices yet, please do so expediently.  Rotary will pull your club charter if dues are not paid, and none of us want to see that happen! If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or the District Treasurer, Ashley Mayley.

  • Winning Points:  I LOVE seeing the points add up! Keep watching the Thursday Touchdown Times to see where your territory stands! We have added some additional points for ticket purchases to the Polio/Foundation fundraiser Halloween Ball: 1 point for individual tickets, 3 points for ½ tables, and 1 point for full tables. District Admin Meg will enter these points at the conclusion of the event. In order to the score points, you must purchase tickets through the District Website.

  • Help us provide meaningful content in the Touchdown Times: What is your club’s next service project, fundraiser, or really interesting speaker? We want to know! Thanks to those who have already submitted information. Please email Ashley.mayley.5@gmail.com with the details at least 3 weeks in advance so we can help promote your event to other Rotarians in the district.
