International Peace Day is September 21

In these times when it's hard to know where and how to engage in service, the Rotary Club of Bay St. Louis has partnered with D6840 to design and make available to all Rotarians a Rotary People of Peace t-shirt.

COVID19 and public health guidelines have caused us to adapt our original Walk Across the Bay plan to an opportunity for all Rotarians to take a walk in your neighborhood or gather with others in an outdoor setting, but on or before September 21st wear your Rotary People of Peace t-shirt and take a picture and/or video of your walk for peace and upload to the Facebook page listed below.

DG Elizabeth will be at the Lakefront in Mandeville at 6:30pm to watch the sunset. Everyone who wears a mask and the People of Peace t-shirt is invited to join -- but don't let the drive to Mandeville be your excuse -- you can celebrate Rotary's commitment to peace on your own front porch or with fellow club members in any outdoor setting.  Post pictures and have masks on.  In this way we are promoting TWO co-equal Areas of Focus: Peace and Conflict Resolution AND Disease Prevention.

If you are preparing a press release for your local media outlets, below is the wording from RI about our international dedication to creating environments of peace.

" Rotary creates environments of peace

As a humanitarian organization, peace is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.

By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Our commitment to peacebuilding today answers new challenges: how we can make the greatest possible impact and how we can achieve our vision of lasting change. We are approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity, broadening the scope of what we mean by peacebuilding, and finding more ways for people to get involved.

Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. "
